

Robert L. Shirley, 62, of Chatham, passed away Friday, November 1, 2013 at St. John’s Hospital.
He was born in Springfield, April 10, 1951 to the late Robert L. and Bettie (Lamb) Shirley. He graduated from Southeast High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam era and also served in the Air Force Guard. He married Carol Zeni on March 15, 1983 at the Little Church of the West in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He was an over-the-road truck driver for H&M Trucking in Clinton, Illinois, always willing to teach young drivers about pneumatic tanks. He loved old cars and driving his corvettes.
Rob is survived by his wife Carol; sisters, Kelly Comerford and Mindi Shirley-Smith both of New Berlin, IL, his brothers; Kim (wife Brenda) Shirley of Springfield, and Jay Shirley of Chatham, IL; nieces Pamella Kelly, Megan (husband Glen) Anderson, Tasha Shirley and Gabrielle Shirley; nephews Brian Comerford, Brian (wife Shannon) Shirley, Nick (wife Casey) Shirley, Mitchell Smith; great nieces Jenna, Drue, and Brinley; and a great nephew Briar.
A memorial visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd. A private family memorial service will be held officiated by Pastor Jerry Weber with military honors provided by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
