Robert Vogel

Robert “Bob” Vogel, 77, of Springfield, died at 2:08 p.m. on Monday, June 12, 2006 at his residence. Bob was born on October 12, 1928 in Hillsboro, the son of Ernest and Hazel Micnhiemer Vogel. He married Mary Ann Mehochko on January 6, 1951 in Hillsboro. Bob was a U.S. Air Force and Korean War Veteran. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Eastern Illinois University and a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Illinois. He taught at McClernand, Wanless, Hazel Dell Elementary Schools and Edison Jr. High School from 1955 to 1966. He served as principal at McClernand Elementary School from 1962 to 1970, Matheny Elementary School from 1970 to 1977 and at Wilcox Elementary School from 1977 to 1984 when he retired from Springfield School District #186. He was a member of the American Legion Post 32. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. One of his favorite hobbies that he was most proud of was growing and taking care of the walnut tree grove on his farm in Hillsboro. Bob supported Illinois Football and the St. Louis Cardinals were his favorite baseball team. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Mary Ann Vogel of Springfield; one daughter: Karen (husband, David) Yenzer of Chatham; one son: Michael (wife, Janet) Vogel of St. Charles, MO; one grandson: Matthew Vogel of St. Charles, MO; three sisters: Mercedes Lessman, Betty Ott and Bonnie Boston all of Hillsboro; three brothers: William “Bill”, Burl and Merle Vogel all of Hillsboro and eight nieces; fourteen nephews and several cousins. Cremation accorded by the Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. An additional Memorial Gathering will be held from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2006 at Bass-Patton-Dean Funeral Home, 624 S. Main St., Hillsboro, IL. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2006 at Bass-Patton, Dean Funeral Home with Father James Neuman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Hillsboro where military honors will be conducted.
