Ronald "Ron" "Styme" Steinmetz

Ronald "Ron" "Styme" Steinmetz, 66, of Springfield, died at 7:55 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center after a valiant battle with lung cancer. Ron was born September 1, 1948 in Springfield, the son of John Bernard and Harriette Hall Steinmetz. He married Lynn Andrew on July 16, 1995 in Springfield. Ron graduated from Lanphier High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed with Calhoun Carpets for 32 years, beginning as a carpet installer and most recently as a floor manager. He was a member of ABATE, was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Illini Basketball fan, enjoyed riding motorcycles and watching the Cardinals play with his buddies. He had a heart of gold and loved his wife, family, and his pets. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Norma Fillon and Kay Wright. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Steinmetz of Springfield; two step-sons, Nick and Chris (wife, Shannon) Hashman; two step-daughters, Jennifer and Melissa Gharst; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; father and mother-in-law, Roger and Shari Andrew of Springfield; siblings, Sandra (husband, Jim) Strafaci of Chicago and John (wife, Pat) Steinmetz of GA; and his beloved dog, Bella. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a eulogy by dear friend, Steve Frankenstein. Graveside Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2015 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense. The family will host a Celebration of Life following the burial at the V.F.W., 2349 Stockyard Rd., Springfield at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ron Steinmetz Memorial Fund at any Marine Bank location.
