

Ross was born December 18, 1938, in Gary, IN, the son of John Boyd and Doris Davis Lowery. He married Rosalie J. Howard on December 4, 1976, in Moline, IL.
Ross graduated from Woodhull High School in 1957 and obtained his associate degree in Firefighter Science from Black Hawk College, Moline IL. He served in the United States Naval Reserves from May 1959 to May 1962, and was honorably discharged.
Ross worked for Coca-Cola for several years before joining the Moline Fire Department in 1973. He worked his way up through the ranks, retiring as a Battalion Chief in 1993. Ross then worked for the ARA Human Resources Firefighter Combat Challenge, traveling the U.S. and Canada as their logistician and course marshal, until his retirement in 2000. He was an avid runner and golfer until health no longer permitted these pursuits. Ross was a member of the Retired Firefighters’ Association and volunteered as a reading tutor at Black Hawk Elementary School for several years. He also served as a Director for 39 years on the Board of Directors for Woodhull Telecommunications, Inc.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sons, Boyd Ross and Andrew Gene Lowery; daughter, Alexis Nicole Lowery; and brother, Kirk Lowery.
Ross is survived by his wife of 44 years, Rosalie; daughters, Naia (Fabian) Gomez Andrade and Cynthia Lowery; son, Mark Lowery; brothers, Scott (Pat), John (Linda), and Todd (Traci); sister-in-law, Diana Lowery; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Internment and military honors were accorded at Calvary Cemetery, with Father Jeff Grant presiding. A Celebration of Life followed.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
