

Ruby A. Simpson, 74, of New Berlin, died at 12:40 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2007 at St. John’s Hospital. Ruby was born September 30, 1932 in Junction City, KY, the daughter of Elmer and Audrey K. Ferguson Burgin. She married Leonard Eugene Simpson on October 28, 1950 in Jacksonville; he preceded her in death. Ruby was a 1950 graduate of New Berlin High School. She worked for many years as the secretary for the Sangamon County Fair and was also treasurer of Community School District # 16 (New Berlin). Ruby was a member of Woodwreath Cemetery Board and had also assisted as a cashier for Cowman Auctioneers. Ruby was a member of Central Baptist Church in Springfield. Her faith was very important to her as was her patriotism. She was President of American Legion Auxiliary Department of Illinois from 1995 through 1996 and a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 743. Ruby was also a member of the Red Hat Society and 8 et 40. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. She is survived by one daughter: Pam Simpson of Decatur; one son: Michael (wife, Jacque) Simpson of Springfield; two grandchildren: Caitlyn and Colton; two sisters: Anne Meier and Dolly Hosier both of CA; one brother: Ted (wife, Grace) Burgin of IN; one uncle: George Ferguson of KY; and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at McCullough-Delaney and Butler Funeral Home, 714 E. Gibson St., New Berlin. The American Legion Auxiliary Post 743 and 8 et 40 will perform ceremonies at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at McCullough-Delaney and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Reg Mills officiating. Burial will follow at Woodwreath Cemetery.
