

Ruth VanBebber Woolfolk, 91, of Springfield, died at 5:10 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at her home. Ruth was born June 1, 1923 in Scottville, the daughter of Leland Payne and Lena Ethel Spencer VanBebber. She married Wendell Woolfolk on February 10, 1945 in Alton; he preceded her in death on May 20, 2013. Ruth was a graduate of Scottville High School and the Coast Guard Academy in Florida. She proudly served her country in the United States Coast Guard as a Seaman First Class instructor and trainer. She worked for the Selective Service where she was put into federal service in the National Guard. Ruth was a member of the Swinging Squares, the Polka Lovers Klub of America and the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed dancing, walking, taking bus trips all over the United States, spending time with family and attending family reunions. She also loved to read poetry, Reader's Digest, and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She was also preceded in death by her parents, six brothers; James, Bill, Leland, Clyde, Gilbert, and Donald; and one sister, Mildred. She is survived by one son, Daniel (wife, Alberta) Woolfolk of Springfield; one daughter, Marsha J. (husband, Michael) Brim of Springfield; three grandchildren, Lindsey (husband, Dusty) Rhodes of Springfield, Amy (husband, Rich) Powell of Bloomington, and Elaina Hunt of Palmyra; five great-grandchildren, Hunter, Ataiva, and Colton Rhodes of Springfield, and Logan and Isabella Hunt of Palmyra; one sister, Fran VanBebber of Springfield; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Ceremony: 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Graveside Ceremony: 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2014 at Scottville West Cemetery, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating.
