Weirdly enough, I had a dream about Sam last night and said let me look him up. And saw that he had passed away. That broke my heart. I went to high school with Sam. He was always kind to me when many were not. He was in my foods group in foods class and I loved cooking with him. He always kept me smiling and laughing. I am so sorry for your loss. I remember how you were always so encouraging, funny  and always willing to share your light even when you yourself were struggling

I went to school with Sam from kindergarten through high school. He always was an example of who a good person was. Through my entire life, I cannot think of an instance where Sam got truly angry. That was the way he was. He knew how intelligent and interesting he was without ever being vain or conceited. In high school, Sam started doing his competitive body building and with tremendous class, he did not brag or think he was better than anyone else. In our senior year of high school, Sam had a competition coming up and if I recall correctly the day of the competition he walked into class beyond tan. He had used some sort of bronzer or spray tan that more or less gave him a distinct orange hue. Of course when everyone saw this there were jokes and laughter directed towards him. Sam took it in such poise and humor that was a true display of the person he was. He always knew how to take things in stride and never sweated the small stuff. That is a rare trait that little people can ascertain in life, but Sam had it mastered. Looking back 12 years ago in our senior year, I still am in awe of his grace. Rest easy buddy. You broke the mold.

Sam, you made me laugh so many times.  You were a teaser in the gentlest and nicest way on the job.  We did some tough tows together, like when the door of the CRJ was stuck shut and we didn't have a ladder! 
 Rest well, my friend and co-worker.  Maybe there are some big planes to tow and fix in heaven.  That 's why you were called by the Almighty!  Rest well my friend.  You earned your reward, your freedom from the strife of this world.  Rest in peace, Sam....



Sam was a really fun co-worker!  I really miss Sam.  I know everyone else does too.  

A man attached to such a nice, special family must be very special too. So said Isa who had the privilege to get to know Sam. We had a very nice conversation last year when Gary and Annie visited us in the Netherlands.  Sam just moved to Chicago again, a new path in his life.  We can't imagine the pain of your loss for all of you, especially for Annie, Gary, Charlie and Liza. Our thoughts are with you and we are sending all our love to you all. 

Sam was a great kid and I enjoyed being his manager while he worked at HollisterCo. He and his friends were all great kids and brightened my day when they came to work. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.  I enjoyed keeping up with his life in Chicago and his adventures with Indy around the city on social media.

Sam made work fun.  We would have each other in stitches  for an entire shift.  For example my favorite  memories were when I said "O the Hugh manatee of it all " after seeing hugh the manatee on the side of a frontier plane. Sam laughed so much he was red when we got back to hanger.
Another one was when he gave me some of his food he made while I was talking to my girl. I said who made this? Sam said I did. I Then told my girl she was fired when she was on speaker phone. I cant say what she said but Sam was in tears laughing so hard.
Sam had us all in stitches the way he does impersonations of us and famous people of the internet including a Rick & Morty characters. 
I can say I will always remember him as a quick witty, humorous, tells you like it is, energy drinking, eating machine,  multi talented, biggest hearted guy.
You will be missed buddy.

When Sam was very young, about 4 years old, we went for a walk at Lincoln Memorial Garden. Since he was so little, I thought it was best to keep it simple and just show him things. So when I spotted a katydid sitting on a bush I said “Oooh Sam, look at this big bug! Look at those long wiggly things on his head!” Sam examined the katydid, looked at me, and solemnly declared, “Yes, Grandma, he has antennas.

I lived in the same apt complex one floor above Sam in Chicago. Many times when my 6 yr old and 2 yr old grandchildren would come to visit we would see Sam if we went in the courtyard to play. Sam was always genuinely kind and friendly to them. Not many young men would take the time to chat with kids but Sam always did. He was so nice to them that twice when we made cupcakes they asked if we could take some downstairs to Sam, so we did! We miss you Sam! The courtyard seems a much sadder place without your smile. Rest in peace my friend!

Last week, I received the sad news of the death of my guest brother Sam. I am still shocked and I can hardly put it into words. I am so sorry for my host family Annie, Gary and Charlie. 

The first time I met Sam was in Chicago where he lived. When I think about traveling and Chicago, I always think of Sam. Even though we only met a few times, I can say that he was an incredibly great personality. Sam and I shared a lot of music together. Listening to these playlists takes me back to the time when I lived in the United States, one of the best experiences of my life. My host family gave me this wonderful opportunity and I am grateful for every minute I spent with them. After my exchange stay many people in Germany told me that I changed in a positive way. I know that Sam had a great influence on this change. 

His sense of humor, intelligence and love will be missed. Rest in peace brother!

I remember when sam was young and thought he could open the garage door by shouting "open sesame." Annie and Gary would use the remote and open it when he was out there. He seemed to always keep that sense of  magic and joy. 

When he and his family came to visit us in New Orleans my sons really enjoyed playing soccer with sam and charlie. they said they wished we lived closer.
I know Sam had disappointments but you'd never know. He was a light, and not the light that dims other peoples but the kind that made them shine too. 
I was so happy to reconnect with him on social media. I loved his pictures, his stories, his love of his parents, Indy, Chicago.   words are inadequate to say how sorry I am. 

Sam you were just one of those people that lit up a room with your smile. Your love for the arts and your talents live in my heart. You were that one person that took life for all its worth. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey as  I am truly a better person because of it. Stay as cool as you are in heaven as you were on this earth.

What a sad news to hear that Sam passed away so unexpectedly. I remember a very nice evening when I had dinner with Sam and Gary in Chicago. We talked about Sam’s business at the time and all his plans for the future. What a pity that he was not given the time to realize his dreams. Sam and Charlie have been great brothers at her host family when Pauline was in Springfield. We know that the Germanns will forever keep a special place in her heart. Our thoughts are with Gary, Annie and Charlie in these difficult times.  Please accept our sincere condolences.

Was so shocked to see Sam had passed away!  So sorry for your loss.  I remember Sam playing his didgeridoo at our family reunions in Virden, Ill and and seeing him perform at New Salem State Pk Theater.  Such a kind and talented young man.  My heart goes out to his parents, Annie and Gary, brother Charlie, and grandmother, my great aunt, Carol.   Praying for God's peace and comfort to surround you all during this difficult time.

Remembering the good old days... Sharing my heart with all.

I remember talking about cars an your life in chicago an talking about how school had changed us an where life was taking us. We had actually planned to meet up after all this craziness was over. But he always made me smile an at my lowest of times made me feel like i was the greatest father an man i could become. He always lifted people up. I loved Sams upbeat personality never seen him mad. He was a hell of a friend an roommodel for many. Heaven has been blessed with one real good angel. Prayers to the German family. Rest easy Sam thank you for showing me what real friend ship was like.

I had the good fortune of being in the cast off Spamalot with Sam. He was a great person, very funny and fun-loving. He loved his dog Indy, ande I  always loved seeing pictures of Indy on Facebook. I remember how many times we quoted Monty Python and the Holy Grail. And I remember how much fun we had being in Spamalot. And that's how I'll always remember him. Rest easy, my friend.

We have profound sadness for Sam and the Germann family.  We grieve with you and your friends.  May peace come soon...

Just one Sam story but our favorite: As kids, Sam Germann and Mark Caspary went on many adventures together. Growing up they went on bike rides. One particular ride sticks out when they were about 13, late one autumn day at Site M’s notorious 17-mile trail frequently riddled with thorns. Sam and Mark set out ahead of us and then we got a flat tire so they got even further ahead of us. After we had fixed the tire a cold rain began to fall we were peddling hard and harder to try to catch them. An hour later we reached the end of the long trail and yet had never seen them anywhere on the single track. Panic! Just as we were about to get the park police, a young couple we had seen earlier on the trail drove up and said Sam and Mark had somehow made a wrong turn gone several miles on another trail, and were now behind us on the main trail riding/walking their bikes with three flat tiers between them. It was raining hard. We rode back about 5 miles before we found them. Then another five miles back to the car. We were all soaked and cold. We wrapped smiling Sam and Mark into a blanket. Sam was very excited because he was absolutely sure he had seen a Bobcat. Yes, he was sure! Wrapped in a blanket strapped into his seat belt, Sam was still filed with energy and joy from the adventure they had in the woods. We lit a fire when we got home. We had Pizza and the parents all listened as Sam, with his eyes sparkling, recounted the day's events and told us about his miraculous sighting. Yes, Sam, you will be sorely missed. We will never forget you. Our deepest heartfelt sympathies to Annie, Gary, and Charlie.


The few times I hung out with Sam stand out very clearly in my memory.  Once he singed my eyebrows while showing my how to make a can of hairspray into a flame thrower.  Mostly I remember how he told stories.  He was theatrical and had the funniest point of view.  He was a joy to be around.  I am so sorry for your loss.  

I met a precocious eleven-year-old named Sam Germann in 2001 at a children's acting camp in Petersburg, IL. Sam was whip-smart, quick to laugh, and usually bouncing in his seat with excess energy. We became friends, and went on to be in dozens of plays and musicals together throughout middle and high school. I remember Sam's incredible ability to give himself over to a role without self-consciousness. Sam had that rare personality that allowed him to be both light-hearted and vulnerable, a prankster and a listener. 

Over the past few days, memories have been pouring back, and every one of them is delightful. It's been several years since I last saw Sam, but until Tuesday, it felt inevitable that we'd bump into each other at some point and he'd give me one of those big, lung-busting hugs, and we'd talk about our pit-mixes and it would be as easy and fun and funny as it always was with him. 

We'll all carry our lessons from Sam forward. Here are mine: Treat everyone like an equal. Be kind. Be welcoming. Be open-hearted and big-hearted and generous. Be the little kid who isn't afraid of the big kids and the big kid who includes the little ones.  Love your dog with abandon. Most importantly, don't be afraid to be exactly who you are.

I really miss you, buddy.  Thanks for the great times and the belly laughs. I feel lucky to have these memories, and I'll hold them tight.

Love you Sam. We will always be brothers, whether it on the field, on the mat or just in life. Fly high brother. 

I am just so saddened to learn of Sam's passing.  Please know I am sending much love and many prayers to all of his family and friends.  His wry sense of humor will always be a great memory.

Sam was such a uniquely good person. His passing feels like such a shock! Sam wasn't ordinary. I'm sure that many people will feel this loss, perhaps more than any one person will ever know.

To Sam's family: I'm so sorry for what you're going through right now. Based on what kind of person Sam was, you can tell he had a family that truly loved him. 

I helped Sam in P. E.  with weight lifting. To watch him learn to love seeing his body grow and change was so uplifting for me. I couldn’t wait to meet him daily. He gave me such a charge! I will never forget his positive attitude and great sense if humor. My condolences are with his family, may Sam Rest In Peace.

I know little people with such a good heart as Sam. Sam was always so kind and friendly to everyone. Now I am sad I didn't get to know him better. I got so lucky to get the honor of being his host sister and to spend many weekends in Chicago with him. These weekends I consider as one of the best of my life. I will always remember him smiling, making jokes, enjoying life, working hard and loving others and of course his lovely dog.

Sam will be missed by many. My sincere condolence to all who knew him. My thoughts go especially to Annie, Gary and Charlie. I love you <3

Heartfelt sympathy, caring thoughts, prayers. Sam was a true treasure - personality, talents, professionalism. Musical theater memories and joyful  times sharing music with Sam at school!!!! He always brightened my day and continued to through his FB posts with Indy!!!! Wishing the family: a song in your hearts; a rainbow after the rain; sunshine after the clouds; cherished memories; peace and love.

I was privileged to know and work with Sam at UST Aviation Services in Chicago.  Sam was a wonderful co-worker, liked and respected by all of us.  He enjoyed telling us the amusing stories and the adventures he had with his dog, "Indie."  He really loved and cared dearly for his pet.  

Sam was always willing to share his aviation knowledge and skills.  

He taught me how to check to the wear indicators on the aircraft that we towed together.  He was my working partner many evenings and nights on our aircraft tows.  Sam was always good about sharing his technical knowledge and his tools (his good 2-way radios) with his work partners.  He was extremely conscientious about safety for himself, his equipment, and those who worked with him.    

I was deeply saddened to hear of his untimely passing, and I will miss Sam very much.    

I wish I could see him just one more time, to tell him what a good, and kind person he is.  I wish I could tell him how much he will be missed.
