

Sharon was born December 6, 1947, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Roscoe and Nellie Bland Manion. She married Walter W. Phelps, Jr. on September 21, 1974, at Sacred Heart Church.
Sharon graduated from Rochester High School. She was employed with the Department of Rehabilitation Services in Payroll. Sharon then went to work with The Gym of Springfield for the last 18 years. She enjoyed spending her time with her family and grandchildren, traveling around the states with her husband and grandchildren, and scrapbooking in her spare time. Sharon was a very strong, loving woman that cared very much for her family, especially all the grandkids. She was always the head of the house that made sure everyone was taken care of and doing well. Sharon was the type of woman to do whatever to make sure her grandkids had the best life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Eva Moses; and brothers, Vernon, Raymond, Danny, and Kenny Manion.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Walter “Wally” W. Phelps, Jr.; son, Michael (wife, Amanda) Phelps of Springfield; granddaughters, Lexy Phelps, Haley McCarty, and Ariel Netznik, all of Springfield; step-grandsons, Devon, Caleb, Jonah, and Ethan Collins-Taapken; great-grandchildren, Oliver Phelps and Emery Gibson; sisters, Sandy Manion of Rochester and Zelma Parrish of Knoxville, TN; sister-in-law, Gale Lynn (husband, Maurice) Borders; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Butler Funeral Home—Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A Funeral Ceremony will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. James Isaacson, SJC officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
