Shirley Ann Bender, 74, former resident of Salinas, CA for 35 years, passed away at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2001 at her residence in Springfield, IL. She was born November 13, 1926 the daughter of Fred and Caroline Meikel Marschke. Caroline remarried and Shirley was then reared by Garrison Allred and Caroline. She married James William Bender on August 13, 1953 in Indianapolis, IN and he preceded her in death in September of 1984. Mrs. Bender was a secretary for the Federal Government. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one daughter: Tracy Mellentine. She is survived by two daughters: Susan (husband-Thomas) Kuizin of Springfield, and Kim (husband-Mike) Nelson of San Luis Obispo, CA; one son: James (wife-Pam) Bender of Delaware, OH; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Memorial Services were held at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home on Thursday, March 8, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Donald Meehling officiating. Remains were cremated and burial will be in Salinas, CA at Queen of Heaven Cemetery on Friday, March 16, 2001 at 1 p.m. The family of Shirley Ann Bender was served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
