

Sister Edna Miner, OSU, 96, formerly of Springfield, died peacefully after a long illness at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 10, 2006 at the Ursuline Infirmary in Alton. Edna Catherine Miner was born July 14, 1909 in Adair, Illinois the daughter of Meredith and Sarah Elizabeth Baughman Miner. Sr. Edna entered the Ursuline Convent in Springfield, Illinois July 1926 and made her first vows July 2, 1928. She received both her Bachelor’s Degree and her Master’s Degree from DePaul University in Chicago. Her many years as a teacher were spent in Illinois: at Blessed Sacrament School, St. Aloysius School and at St. Joseph’s School in Springfield; at Sacred Heart School and at St. Joseph’s School in Granite City; at SS Peter and Paul in Collinsville and at Ascension School in Oak Park. She also served as Principal in both Schools in Granite City. From 1974 to 1983 Sr. Edna was Community Treasurer in Springfield, Illinois. She came to the Ursuline Infirmary in Alton in 1990. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters: Marguerite Norris; Ancieville Miner and Lillian Sehy. She is survived by several nephews and nieces including James Ed Norris; William Norris and John Norris of Springfield, as well as her Ursuline Sisters. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield. The Mass of Resurrection and Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Rev. John Titus officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
