Stephen Bloomfield Shannon

Stephen Bloomfield Shannon, 69, of Springfield, passed away at 10:20 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at St. John's Hospital. Steve was born July 30, 1941 in Carlinville, the son of William Bloomfield and Helen Howard Bloomfield. He married Kathleen Kelly on November 24, 2000 in Peoria, IL. Steve was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and the National Broadcasters Association. He had an accomplished career as a sports broadcaster. He began broadcasting for the Denver Broncos and the Denver Nuggets. He then went on to broadcast for the Kansas City Royals, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and later for the Milwaukee Brewers. He ended his career broadcasting for the Springfield Capitals. He is preceded in death by his parents and step-sister, Monica Vespa. He is survived by his wife, Kate Kelly; one son, Stephen P. (wife, Terrie) Bloomfield of Mt. Olive, IL; three grandchildren, Brooke, Alicia, and Lindsey Bloomfield, all of Mt. Olive, IL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 North Amos Avenue, Springfield, IL 62702 with Fr. Robert Jallas, celebrant.
