Stephen Joseph Melton, Jr.

Stephen Joseph Melton, Jr., 52, of Jacksonville, died at 6:41 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. Stephen was born on November 10, 1961 in Springfield, the son of Stephen J. and Susan K. Petterchak Melton, Sr. Stephen attended Blessed Sacrament School and graduated from Griffin High School in 1980. He enjoyed listening to music, NASCAR, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawrence and Bernice Melton and John and Lillie Petterchak; and one aunt, Kathleen (Melton) Loviscek. He is survived by his parents, Stephen and Susan Melton of Springfield; daughter, Brandi (boyfriend, Christopher Peper) Melton of Springfield; long-time friend, Marsha Grim of Madrid, IA; two brothers, Michael (wife, Rebecca) Melton of Rochester and Mark (wife, Kimberly) Melton of Springfield; sister, Mindy (husband, Douglas) Reynolds of Springfield; three nieces, Heather, Kaylee, and Rachel; five nephews, Joshua, Joseph, Jacob, Justin, and Jesse; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Stephen was a Gift of Hope donor. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 8:30 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield with Rev. Jeff Grant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
