Stephen R. Szerletich

Stephen was born on May 7, 1926 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Stephen A. and Grace T. Fiaush Szerletich. He married Marie Dirksen on May 15, 1965; she preceded him in death on February 3, 1995.

Mr. Szerletich was a member of St. Aloysius Church. He graduated from Divernon Grade School and graduated from St. James Trade School. He served in the United States Merchant Marines. He was a member of Bishop Griffin Assembly – 4th Degree Knights of Columbus where he served as Faithful Navigator from 1995 – 1997, Knights of Columbus Council 364, Elks Club #158, American Legion Post 32, Illinois Standardbred Owners & Breeders Association, AARP – State and National, Memorial Medical Center Foundation, United Commerical Travelers Council #095 and several senior citizens clubs in Springfield. Mr. Szerletich retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company in 1979 after 30 years of service. He was co-owner & manager of V.V. Bennett Company for 12 years retiring in 1994.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Szerletich.

He is survived by one brother, Eugene C. (wife, Ruth) Szerletich of Springfield, sister-in-law; Helen Szerletich of Springfield, two aunts; Gertrude Bradchulis and Mary Szerletich both of Miami, FL, one niece, ten nephews and several cousins including Sister Francis Mary Philipp of Springfield and also extended family; The Gary L. Schmidt Family.

Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 6 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2003. Prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Concelebrated funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at St. Aloysius Church with Rev. John Titus principal celebrant.

Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
