

Sue R. Hanson, 88, of Springfield, died at 5:10 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2008 among family in the affectionate care of the Regency Nursing Home. Sue was born on November 19, 1919 in Durant, OK, the daughter of Earle G. and Lela Coker Roling. She married Walter E. Hanson on September 14, 1940 in Durant, OK. Sue was an active member in the Springfield community as a philanthropist and humanitarian. A member of Westminster Presbyterian Church since 1952, she was a church Elder and served on numerous committees. Sue was also involved in many other organizations, including PEO, Chapter DC. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters, Edna Wester and Freda Barbe, and her brother-in-law Bill Barbe. She is survived by her husband: Walter E. Hanson of Springfield; one daughter: Karen Hanson Pletsch of Springfield; three grandchildren: David A. (wife, Heather) Pletsch of Springfield, Amy Pletsch (husband, Tony) Schoenoff of Ann Arbor, MI, and Jonathan M. (wife, Hethyr) Pletsch of Colorado Springs, CO; three great-grandchildren: Jessica Hanson Pletsch, James David Pletsch and Gage Edmund Pletsch; brother-in-law: Truman Wester of Dennison, TX and several nieces and nephews. Cremation will be accorded by Cremation Tribute Center. Family will receive friends for a Memorial Gathering from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield. A Memorial Ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2008 at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Dr. Lonnie Lee and Rev. Mark Merrill. Private family inurnment will follow at Oak Ridge Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hanson Family Fund, Sangamon County Community Foundation, 1 Old State Capitol Plaza, Suite 816, Springfield, IL 62701.
