

The Rev. Joseph Miller, “Fr. Joe”, 92, passed away at 8:10 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at Mother of Good Counsel Home in St. Louis, MO. He was born April 1, 1910 the son of Sebastian and Rose Grossheim Miller in Alton, IL. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School in Alton and then immediately entered the Preparatory and Seminary of the Pontifical College Josephinum in Worthington, OH. He began a lifetime dedicated to daily prayer and service to God when he celebrated his first mass as a Catholic priest on May 17, 1936. He was Assistant Pastor at St. Mary Parish in Taylorville from 1936-1942; Pastor at St. Elizabeth Parish in Marine from 1942-1960; and Pastor at Ss. Peter and Paul Parish in Springfield from 1960 until his retirement in 1985. He loved to play golf and travel and was a ready and worthy conversationalist on almost any subject. Fr. Joe was also the last surviving member of his class of graduated priests. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: John, Lou and Herb Miller and three sisters: Salome Kane and Rosemary Randall. His is survived by one sister: Betty Parker of WA, many nieces and nephews and their families, other extended relatives and very good friends. Friends may call at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception from 10-11:30 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2002. Concelebrated Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m Friday, July 26, 2002 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Very Reverend Patrick J. Wright V.F. principal celebrant.
