

He was born on December 1, 1940, in Springfield, IL, the son of James H. and Johanna (Laffey) Regan. Thomas married Karen L. Dumez on August 9, 1969, at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield.
Thomas attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic School and graduated from Cathedral Boys High School in 1958. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air National Guard as a staff sergeant. Thomas earned his master’s degree from Illinois State University and U of I – Springfield. He went on to work for the State of Illinois for 35 years, and later with District 186 as a teacher for 20 years. Thomas was a faithful parishioner at Christ the King Catholic Church, with a legion of many, and worked for many years with St. Martin de Porres. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus 364. Thomas enjoyed watching sports, especially games involving the Pittsburg Pirates and U of I basketball, and horse racing. Thomas loved coaching kids’ baseball teams, and playing baseball. He was known as honest and helpful. Thomas will be missed by his family, friends, and all of his buddies.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas M. Regan; and siblings, James W. Regan and Janet Ann Burghart.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 56 years, Karen Regan of Springfield; son, Christopher J. Regan; one grandchild, Ridge Thomas Regan; siblings, Mary Patricia Dougherty of Fayetteville, GA; sister-in-law, Joan Dumez (Denny) Gobble; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center, prior to services.
Memorial Gathering and Mass of Christian Burial: Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield, followed by the Mass at 11:00, with Rev. Mark Tracy, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
