Timothy A. “Tim” Brown, I 1947-2021 Riverton, IL – Tim Brown, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at 11:39 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL, after a long battle with heart disease.
Tim was born March 1, 1947, in Springfield, IL, to Thomas S. and Eunice M. Brown. He attended Tri-City schools in Buffalo, IL, where he made many life-long friends.
Tim married Patricia A. Parrish on April 3, 1964, in Springfield, IL. and together they have five children: Lisa (Dennis) Hammons, of Springfield; Rhonda (Michael Coady) Smith, of Riverton; Tim (Tricia Cottingham) Brown, II, of Riverton; Christal (Trace Young) VanMeter, of Buffalo; and Dustin (Alicia) Brown of Spaulding.
Growing up on a farm, Tim was no stranger to hard work. As a jack of all trades and master to many, Tim was the owner/operator of Brown Trucking, disaster salvage buyer for Trowbridge Company, Fertilizer Plant Manager in Madison, IN, and operated two auction houses in Forsyth and Auburn. In 2001, Tim and his son, Dustin, started Brown Storm Service, a storm/hurricane clean-up company. He became known as one of the best storm contractors in the business for his honesty, work ethic, and knowledge. After many years of disaster clean-up, Tim brought Brown Storm Service back to Riverton and, with Dustin, have built BSS into one of the most respected tree service and snow removal companies in the area.
Tim led a full life and shared many stories of his adventures and friends he met along the way. He had a wonderful sense of humor and never met a stranger. He was a good friend and mentor to many just starting in the tree business and was always willing to lend a hand when needed. Tim touched the hearts of so many, and he will never be forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his father; daughter, Mona Lisa Brown; and brothers, James Brown, Butch Oberreiter, and Sonny Oberreiter.
Tim is survived by his wife; children; seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren (with two on the way); mother, Eunice M. Brown of Riverton; siblings, Judy Brown of Winter Garden, FL, Patty Brown of Winter Garden, FL, Juanita Ledford of Springfield, Dennis (Peggy) Brown of Sherman, and Steve (Cindy) Brown of Decatur; best friend, Mike McCloughan (they spent hours on the phone every day like two teenage girls); lots of extended family whom he loved dearly; and his beloved dogs, Allie, Teddy, Toby, and Copper.
