

Virgil E. Jarvis, 84, of Rochester, died at 12:04 a.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at his home. Virgil was born on March 4, 1923 in Rochester, the son of Joseph and Agatha Anna Pfaff Jarvis who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Leo, Harry and John Jarvis and two sisters: Gladys Meyer and Lillian Widing. He married Barbara J. Cleaver in December 1946 in Springfield. He was a WWII U.S. Marine Veteran where he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He was employed as a carpenter with Carpenter’s Union Local 16. Virgil was a hard working and caring gentleman who built many homes including his families. He enjoyed fishing, helping his neighbors and collecting golf balls. Surviving is his wife of sixty-one years, Barbara J. Jarvis of Rochester; two sons, Dennis (wife, Gloria) Jarvis and Rick (wife, Twila) Jarvis both of Springfield; one daughter, Debra (husband, Tim) Curtis of Rochester; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Jarvis of Springfield and one sister, Viola Spence of Springfield and several nieces and nephews. The family welcomes friends to visit from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Funeral Ceremonies will be held at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Dr. Robert Fulkerson officiating. Burial will follow in Rochester Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
