

Virginia Ann Santini, 90, of Springfield, died at 5:40 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2008 at St. John's Hospital Hospice. Virginia was born February 23, 1917 in Springfield, the daughter of Peter and Antonina Montalbano LaRocca. She married Americo Santini on June 10, 1934 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church; he preceded her in death in 2004. Virginia attended St. Rita School in Kincaid and the Palmer School in Springfield. She had been employed as a Clerk for the City of Springfield, and had worked for Myers Brothers, Sangamo Electric, and the International Shoe Factory. She had been a Brownie Leader, Election Judge and a Volunteer at St. John's Hospital. She was very family orientated and loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. She loved to cook and bake for her family, and was very proud of the Italian Christmas cookies she baked for family and friends. She was a "big" Cubs fan and loved Italian music. She is survived by three daughters: Lucia Santini, Annette Mitalski, and Patricia (husband, Jerry) Daniels all of Springfield; seven grandchildren: Judi, Marta, Lisa, Marc, Paul, Timothy and Melissa; seven great-grandchildren; one sister: Rose Kink of Springfield; one brother: Joseph (wife, Frances) LaRocca of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2119 N. 20th St. Springfield, with Rev. Donald Meehling celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
