Virginia Carol Scattergood

Virginia Carol Scattergood, 54, of Springfield, passed away at 11:09 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Stone Crest Medical Center in Smyrna, TN. Carol was born August 19, 1956 in Moultrie, GA, the daughter of Jack and Lois G. Smithwick. She married Stephen J. Scattergood on October 19, 2002 in Carlinville, IL. Carol owned a seamstress shop, worked as a wedding planner and as a social worker while living in GA. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, going to craft fairs, going to garage sales and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Whitney. She is survived by her husband Stephen of Springfield; son, Jason (Christina) Montgomery of Springfield; five grandchildren, Alexus, Alaina, Heaven, Hayden, and Bentley; parents, Jack and Lois Smithwick of Nashville, GA; brother, Chuck Smithwick of Tifton, GA; sister, Martha (Tom) Humpheries of Waycross, GA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 1st Church of God, 2800 Stevenson Dr., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 1st Church of God with Pastor Jay Kroft officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
