

He was born July 2, 1922 in Springfield, the son of Ross W. and Esther R. (Stubbs) Thompson. He married Jane Matthews in Springfield on June 5, 1944.
Warren graduated from Springfield High School and worked as a welder in the Manitowoc, Wisconsin submarine yards. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the USS Sigsbee (DD-502). After an honorable discharge, Warren started and ran several successful construction companies. After retiring, Warren enjoyed spending time with his wife and friends.
He was a founding member of the Abe Lincoln Gun Club. He was also a member of the Lefthander’s Gun Club and the National Rifle Association. Warren was a founding member of the Flying 20 Club.
Warren was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing. He was an accomplished instrument rated pilot and loved to fly his airplanes. At times, he owned a Cessna 172 and a Beechcraft Bonanza. Warren was the proud builder of a Pitts Special high performance aerobatic airplane. Warren was also a member of the First Church of God.
Warren is survived by three sons, Jeffrey Thompson (Spouse: Marcia) of Columbia, MO, Stephen Thompson, M.D. (Spouse: Barbara) of Peoria, IL, Roger Thompson (Spouse: Jayne) of Springfield, IL; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Thompson and Parents, Ross and Esther.
Visitation will be held Sunday May 6, 2011 from 4 to 6 PM at Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel, 800 S Grnad Ave West, Springfield, IL. The funeral service will be held Monday, May 7 at 10 AM at First Church of God , 2800 Stevenson Dr., Springfield, IL 62703, with Pastor Jay Kroft Officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
