

Wilhelma “Minnie” Maurer, 93, died at 5:15 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2006 at Memorial Medical Center. Minnie was born on December 31, 1912 in Springfield, the daughter of Joseph and Teresa Hoffman Kohlrus. She married Harold C. Maurer and he preceded her in death in 1981. She was employed as a production worker for International Shoe Company for thirty-four years. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Minnie also played Santa Claus for the Pope John Paul Apartments for many years. Minnie loved baseball and was an avid sports fan. She loved to support her two favorite teams the Chicago Cubs and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame University. She enjoyed cooking and loved to bake sugar cookies. Minnie was a lady who was devout in her Catholic faith and will be remembered as “The Best” grandmother. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son: James Jones; four brothers: Frank Kohlrus, Louie Kohlrus, Walter Kohlrus and Edward Kohlrus and three sisters: Mary Zions, Ann Rock and Josephine Baksys. She is survived by one grandson: Stephen (wife, Patty) Jones of Springfield; one granddaughter: Tracy (husband, David) Hawk of Friendsville, TN; two great-grandsons: Brian (wife, Sherri) Jones of Olathe, KS and Christopher Jones of Springfield; one brother: John Kohlrus of Sherman; one sister: Teresa Clay of Springfield and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2119 N. 20th St., Springfield, with Rev. Donald J. Meehling celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the recipient of the donor’s choice.
