

Willard “Bunch” Bunn, Jr., 88, of Springfield, passed away at 7:19 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2002 at his residence. Willard was born October 27, 1913 the son of Willard and Ruth Regan Bunn in Springfield. He married Florence Smith July 30, 1994 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Mr. Bunn started working for Springfield Marine Bank in 1935 in the auditing department. In 1961 he was named President of Springfield Marine Bank and in 1974 he became Chairman of the Board. He retired in 1989 and continued as Chairman Emeritus. He was a recipient of the Copley Press First Citizen Award. He was a long-term director for Illinois Bell. He was the Regional Affairs Director for United States Golf Association (USGA), an early supporter of the Old Capital Art Fair as well as the Marine Bank Student of the Year Program and had a long involvement SCADA. He was a member of St. John’s Hospital Foundation, and a long-standing member and treasurer of Abraham Lincoln Association. He was a past Board Member of Springfield College in Illinois. He was a board member of several other organizations. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: John M. Bunn and one sister: Ruth Boyton. He is survived by his wife, Florence of Springfield; two sons: Willard (wife, Cissy) Bunn III of Lake Forrest, Bob (wife, Sarah) Bunn of Springfield; one daughter: Octavia (husband, Peter) Casper of Springfield; two stepsons: Richard (wife, Carol) Smith of Sedona, AZ, William (wife, Terri) Smith of Atlanta, GA; one stepdaughter: Jackie (husband, Michael) Stephenson of Gretna, NE; one sister: Elizabeth Taylor of Del Ray Beach, FL; one brother: George R. (wife, Nancy) Bunn of Springfield; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 4-7:00 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2002. Visitation will begin with a wake service at 4:00 p.m. Concelebrated Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002 at Christ the King Catholic Church with Reverend David Lantz principal celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to St. John’s Hospital Foundation Office, 800 E. Carpenter, Springfield, IL 62702 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
