

Bill was born on March 31, 1944, in Springfield, the son of Louis J. Sr. and Helen A. (Rakosky) Seman. He married the love of his life in 1966, Mary M. Lindsay and they celebrated 54 years of marriage in December.
Bill attended Northeast Missouri State on a full athletic scholarship where he played football and was inducted to the NEMS Sports Hall of Fame in 1995 and in 2000 was selected to be a member of the All-Century Team. Bill was drafted by the New York Giants in 1967 and went on to play guard for the Hamilton Tiger Cats who won the Gray Cup championship that same year.
Bill was a teacher and football coach at Southeast High School where the varsity team achieved the first winning record in SEHS history. His players and students still fondly remember his personal dedication, discipline, and the belief he had in each of them individually. Bill was inducted into the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame in 2016. Bill and Mary raised three sons who inherited Bill’s athletic ability and all three boys played Division I sports. Bill was an entrepreneur and owned several businesses in Springfield and also led Construction Management for a division of IDOT.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Al, Les, and Louie.
Bill will be sadly missed by his wife, Mary; sons, Matt (Shelly) Seman, Tony (Julie) Seman, and Danny (Angela) Seman; grandchildren, Paige, Jake, and Will Seman; sisters, Helen Bridges and Mary (Brian) Best; and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 10, 2021, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.
