

William Capella, Sr., 75 of Springfield, died at 11:35 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2006 at his residence. William was born December 22, 1930 in Springfield, the son of Louis and Josephine Schaaf Capella. He married Darlene Parris on June 7, 1958 at Fifth Presbyterian Church in Springfield. William graduated from Feitshans High School in 1949. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps serving from 1950 – 1954 during the Korean conflict, during which time he received the Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal with two stars, U.N. Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Republic of Korea War Service Medal, and Presidential Unit Citation – Republic of Korea. Following his military service, William worked as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in Springfield from 1957 – 1988. William was a great family man. He was devoted to his family, his church, his country and his work. William was a forty year member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he was very active in all aspects of the church. Sports were a favorite hobby of his, especially the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. William was also a baseball coach for Khoury League. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife: Darlene Capella of Springfield; two sons: William (wife, Bonita) Capella, Jr. of Springfield, and David (wife, Susie) Capella of Auburn; three grandchildren: Will Capella, Bret Capella, and Matt Capella; one great-grandson: Kaleb Capella; one sister: JoAnn (husband, Rolland) Forbes of Roselle, IL; one uncle; several nieces and nephews; and several cousins. Cremation accorded by the Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Memorial Services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2006 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 2400 N. Grand Ave. East, Springfield with Rev. Peter Wehrly officiating. Graveside Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 16, 2006 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Rev. David Van Bebber officiating. The Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
