

William Olaf Tobin, Jr., 90, of Springfield, died at 6:05 a.m. on February 24, 2006 at his residence. William was born on April 13, 1915 in Springfield, the son of William and Inez Cooper Tobin. He married Evelyn Colburn on August 4, 1945. She preceded him in death on February 26, 2004. William operated a retail coal business prior to serving in the Army during WW II. He was employed at Sangamo Electric, retiring after 25 years of service. He was a star football player for Springfield High School. William also loved gardening, fishing, ballroom dancing and golf. William was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Maurice and Joseph Tobin. He is survived by two sons: Timothy Tobin of Leawood, KS and William D. “Bill” Tobin of Forth Worth, TX; three daughters: Janis (husband, Charles) Pennell of Springfield; Susan (husband, Ralph) Ray of Decatur and Debra Tobin of Springfield; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Cremation accorded by the Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield with Rev. Robert J. Jallas celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Illinois Army National Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family of William Olaf Tobin, Jr. is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
