

Winda C. Shephard, 64, of Springfield, died at 1:35 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. Winda was born on June 2, 1952 in Biloxi, MS, the daughter of Ben Junior Shephard and Bertha Lee Darby. She married James Otis Cannon on November 26, 1977; he preceded her in death. Winda graduated from high school in Biloxi, MS. She worked for Salvation Army, and later worked as a security guard for the State of Illinois for more than 15 years. She volunteered at Kumler United Methodist Church for many years, and enjoyed spending time at the Senior Center. Winda loved her family and her dogs, Tango, Orange, & Mamacita. She always helped anyone that she could, and enjoyed Facebook, Pinterest, reading and writing, flower gardening, and collecting different things. Winda was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, James and Juan Shephard; and one granddaughter, Nishiekah Shephard. She is survived by her sons, Edward Shephard, Kwain (Martina) Shephard, Thomas (Demetria) Shephard, Aldo, Pablo and Ahmad Shephard, and Lamarcus Perry, all of Springfield; daughters, Paula (George) Shephard and Toshiko (Lee Crumb) Shephard, both of Springfield; forty-one grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, Donnie (Sherry) Darby of Carthage, MS; and dear friend, Robert Currie. Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the ceremony at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Kumler Church, 600 North 5th Street, Springfield, with Rev. Robert K. Freeman officiating. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park following ceremonies.
