Born on December 28, 1951, in Sheldon, SC, Abraham was the second youngest of Benjamin Scott, Sr. and Rosa Lee Scott’s six children. Countless fond memories of his early childhood and education were spent throughout Beaufort, SC with his siblings: Anne, Joesph, Benjamin Jr., Bobbie, and Ralph.
After graduating from high school, Abraham went on to receive his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant and earn a Bachelor of Science degree from South Carolina State University. He later went on to serve 20 years in the Army where he was assigned to various leadership positions within the fields of finance, accounting, and budgeting. He earned numerous military awards, including four Meritorious Service Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, the Achievement Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
Early in his career with the Army, Abraham met his beautiful wife, Janice. They welcomed two daughters - Crystal and Angel. Janice was among 40 individuals killed in three divisions of the Office of the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Army on September 11, 2001. Since the tragic events that took place on September 11, 2001, he dedicated his life to keeping the memory alive of not only his wife, but over 2,900 individuals who perished at all three sites (Pentagon, Shanksville, and New York City). Abraham served more than four years on the Board of Directors for the Pentagon Memorial Fund, which was charged with raising funds for the design/build of the Pentagon Memorial. He was one of four 9/11 family members to testify before the House Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats, and International Relations. His extensive work on Capitol Hill with other 9/11 family members, Senators, and House of Representatives helped to pass the 9/11 Intelligence Reform Bill in 2004 and other recommendations of 9/11 Commission by Congress.
One of Abraham’s most cherished accomplishments was establishing the Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund in honor of his wife where he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors. The fund has awarded over $150,000 in scholarships.
Abraham will be dearly missed and forever remembered as having a heart of gold by the many lives he touched.
