Carol Sundquist Bowman, age 90, died peacefully on New Years Eve, December 31st at Mt Vernon Nursing Center in Alexandria. She was surrounded in prayer by her family when she passed. Born December 25, 1925 in Sheridan, Wyoming, Carol led a very fulfilling life. While in high school in California, she was active in the bowling club, Pi Kappa honorary club, drill team, feature editor for their paper, and her biggest love, playing cello in the orchestra. She even worked as an usherette at the state theatre.
Before marrying the love of her life, the late Col. James H. Bowman, and embracing her new role as an Army Wife Carol's employment included being a reporter and feature writer as well as a brief career with the FBI. While Dad pursued his military career both in the US and abroad, Carol raised four children. Her compassion and interest in others led her to volunteer work at Hollin Meadows Elementary (which later became employment), then also at Mt Vernon Nursing Center where she last resided. If not volunteering, attending a military function, or a school/sports event of one of the children, Mom would find enjoyment in her gardening, watching wildlife in the yard, or the companionship of her dog.
She is survived by her four children; Debby Bagwell (Al), Cathy McWilliams (Tom), Marty Nelson (Eugene), and Jim Bowman (Andrea), as well as 9 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
