Carolyne obtained her baccalaureate at Gettysburg College, Pennsylvania and in 1978 graduated with a Doctorate of Philosophy in Developmental Psychology from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. A growing interest in psychotherapy led her to pursuing a post doctorate program at the University of Massachusetts followed by an internship at the Veterans Hospital in West Haven, Connecticut under the direction of the Yale School of Medicine resulting in her becoming a licensed clinical psychologist at Saint Francis Hospital, Hartford Connecticut in 1987. She relocated to Northern Virginia in 2005 with her husband and went into private practice until 2021. Over the years she enjoyed the admiration of her colleagues and the love of her patients. An avid photographer, she was never without her camera when traveling to favorite places such as Santa Fe, New Mexico; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Paris, France. A life long interest in the theater led to her support of the Kennedy Center, Arena Stage, and Shakespeare Theater in Washington, DC. Her support of Native American issues was demonstrated by her charter membership in the National Museum of the American Indian.
