Sending our love and deepest condolences to Phillip and Andre and the entire family.  We were watching Andre play basketball on television against Lehigh this evening and the announcer referenced Debbie’s passing.  We are stunned and so sorry.  Debbie was a beloved neighbor when our sons were infants and many years later we enjoyed seeing her at high school basketball games.  Such a beautiful person and a devoted, loving wife and Mom.

I just heard of the passing of Deb Screen.  My heart just dropped and I cannot believe she is gone.  I remember being in aw of her when I first met her and she was a rock star in meetings.  I finally had the opportunity to work along side her and that is when I found out that we were Sorority Sisters.  Deb is and was a beautiful spirit.  Praying for continued strength and comfort to the family.

It’s taken me several days to process that my Big Sister Deborah Johnson Screen has died. Debbie modeled Delta for me as a wide-eyed freshman at Central State. I saw myself in her because I was also tall and slender. She was the epitome of elegance and grace and I knew I had to be a member of the Delta Kappa Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. When I made line in 1983, My idol became my big sister and my “special.”  She even stepped in to pin me when  my mother (a Soror) was unable to be there. I will forever miss Debbie’s wonderful smile and her loving spirit. I am saddened by her death, but glad I had the opportunity to know her. RIH

Most of us in Headquarters Department of the Army knew Deb as an outstanding person devoted to public service in the Deputy Chief of Staff G-9 Office. From the Under Secretary of the Army’s Office, Mr. Swan wanted people in the HQDA Staff to remember her as we did. We remember Deb as a kind, lovely and dedicated professional who worked selflessly as a member of the Army Enterprise.  She epitomized civilian public service and was a great friend to many. She is sadly missed but fondly remembered.

I use to get Debbie and her sister Pam mixed up all the time. The difference was, Deb had that presence about her, "don't play." I remember going to her parents' house looking for Pam and she came to the door. I was like hello, all on my best behavior, and asked how  mom and dad were doing to break the ice. I got a smile then, lol. She was the big sister for sure.

Family - simply gone too soon. Debbie always carried herself with poise and a quiet dignified manner. It seemed to me that she’d didn’t so much as walk into a space — more like she glided. Debbie and I were proud legacies as our parents attended Central State University together in the 1950s. Even at 18, Debbie’s infectious laugh, her grace, and beauty turned heads everywhere we went. Debbie’s mom used to tell her that as long as she bathed before bed, she would always have sweet dreams. No matter what time we came in, Debbie would remember her mother’s words. Sweet dreams my friend and Soror as you rest in perfect peace. 

Ms. Screen will be extremely missed. She was a breath of inspiration to many who worked with her.  She said good morning to me just about every day for the last four years as she walked passed my desk in the mornings. We talked about her son and my sons. She inspired me with her intellect and poise in every meeting I shared with her and other teammates.  We loved her but God loves her more. My condolences to the family. Honoring a friend’s transition is truly  about honoring their life.  Despair over what may have been, but revel and reflect in what was.

I am still in shock after hearing the news of Deb’s passing. Life is such a precious gift and Deb shared that blessing with all who crossed her path. Her warm smile and generous heart will be missed. To the family, know that her spirit lives on as you deal with this loss. My deepest condolences.

You always carried yourself with dignity and grace. Even when I wore that crazy grey whig your bearing would not break. It seemed that a ray of sunshine followed you around. I never saw anything take a smile from your face. I have always been told God takes the good ones early.  That God has another and more grander plan that we can’t see. I am still in shock how this can be. Going into the office will be a little harder. No more good morning greetings to start the day. It was an honor to have known you. May God provide peace over your family during these hard times.
