

of Springfield, Virginia died peacefully on August 4, 2015 at Fairfax INOVA Hospital following a long illness. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, COL Michael M. Ferguson, USA, (Ret).
Born in Montmorency, France on November 18, 1926 she was the daughter of Marie Provet Lefevre and Gustav Lefevre, a decorated veteran of WW I. Following WW II she married LTC William McKinney, USA (Ret), predeceased. As the wife of career Army officers she gave nearly 70 years to the service of her family and the Nation in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa as well as on the home front while her spouses served in the Korean and Viet Nam conflicts. Denise was active, gifted and extremely effective in representing the United States of America and its values. Her language skills, poise and grace endeared her to many and influenced literally thousands of people over nearly 20 years while posted as the spouse of the Defense and Army Attaché at Embassies in over 26 countries in Africa.
In addition to her husband, Denise is survived by sons, Patrick (and wife Tokie) of Opelika, Alabama, Richard (and wife Sandy) of Drake, Colorado, and Michael of Santa Cruz, California
Funeral arrangements will be private for immediate family only. A memorial service celebrating her remarkable life will be held at a later date to be announced.
