

An amazing man, adoring husband, loving father, and devoted brother and friend passed away, peacefully, on Wednesday February 25, 2015. He is survived, and will be sorrowfully missed, by his wife of 60 years, Maria Schmidt of Springfield, VA, sisters Hildegard Klene and Mechthilde Reda, his children, Edwin, Joel and Carol Ann, their spouses, Mary, Daphne and Rick, his grandchildren Leslie, Allan, Natalie, Sarah, Jessica, Michael, Allie, Victoria, Daniel and Casey, great grand children Mikayla, Tommy and Aurora and many many dear friends.
Edwin was born in Koln Germany on August 19th in 1928 to the late August and Maria Schmidt. He survived war-torn Germany in resistance of the Nazi’s, immigrated to the U.S., graduated from Georgetown University, class of 1954, and worked at the AFL-CIO, here in Washington, for almost 40 years. He passionately supported the furtherment of the American Labor Movement and remained a devout Roman Catholic.
A prayer service will be held at the DEMAINE FUNERAL HOME, 5308 Backlick Rd., Springfield, VA (703)941-9428 on Sunday, March 1st from 7:00-8:00 PM, and a visitation / service will be held on Monday, March 2nd from 6:00 to 9:00 at the same location. The funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Annandale, Va. Interment will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Edwin M.
