With gratitude to the Almighty God, we announce the death of Chief Effiong Mfon Eyo (Offong Uko) variously known as Prince, Tempest Mufefe and Prince Kunta. He was born on 18th August 1957 at Ibiaku Issiet in the present-day Uruan Local Government of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. He was born into the family of Late Offong Mfon Afahane Eyo and Nkoyo Abia Eyo (Nne Nkoyo Abia). His late father, Offong (Chief) Mfon Afahane Eyo hailed from Ufok Afahane Esio of Umume-Oro in Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Offong Mfon Afahane Eyo was one-time Secular Head of Akpakip Oro, otherwise known as Attah Oro III.
EDUCATION
Effiong started his early education in 1961 at Methodist Primary School, Ibiaku Issiet, until the outbreak of the Nigeria civil war in 1966. His parents relocated to Oron where he completed his primary education at Methodist Primary School, (Manse) Akani Obio, Oron in 1968. He was admitted into Methodist Boys’ High School, Oron for his secondary Education in 1969, and passed out in 1973 upon obtaining the West African School Certificate (WASC).
Tempest Mufefe, as he was fondly called had a stint at Mary Knoll Secondary school, Ogoja, Cross River State where he enrolled for the Higher School Certificate Examination (HSC). That ambition was cut short when in 1976 he was admitted as one of the pioneer students into the University of Calabar (UNICAL) to study for a degree program in Geology. This offer of admission was truncated by his desire and prevailing crave for studies overseas coupled with numerous opportunities for scholarships. That was the circumstance in which he departed to the United States in 1977 for foreign studies. He enrolled at Virginia Western Community College, where he graduated as a Transportation Engineer.
LIFE IN THE US
Tempest often recounted his raw and naked experience with life in the United States, in the same manner, most migrants, particularly of African descent, do. In 1983 he founded Geriatric Plus Incorporated, a home health nursing agency. He touched many lives by giving the elderly wonderful health support while staying in the confines of their own homes. Effiong was married to his heartthrob, Yvonne and together they have 2 sons and a daughter; Effiong Eyo (Jnr.) Evan Eyo and Janay Eyo, all independent and responsible citizens of the US.
SOCIAL LIFE
Kunta had a huge capacity for human interaction and socialization. He loved life and lived it big-time. His social interactions knew no bounds; race or colour, sex or creed. He was man of the people. He will be remembered for his cordiality, sensational humour and hilarious laughter.
CHRISTIAN LIFE
Though born into a Methodist family, but ended up attending St Clement church, Alexandria, Virginia, till death.
