Died October 23, 2022, resident of Springfield, VA. Born in Homestead, PA on January 6, 1937 to William and Marie Deary. Beloved sister of William P. Deary; aunt of David (Rita) Deary and Daniel (Nadyne) Deary. Also survived by four grandnephews: Nicholas, William, Benjamin, and Christopher Deary.
Mary received her bachelor’s degree in education from Marymount College in Manhattan in 1958 and later received a master’s degree education from Saint John’s University in Queens NY. She began her career by teaching for several years at Our Lady of Pompeii School in South Greenwich Village NY. She then worked for over 30 years at Fairfield Elementary School in Massapequa NY, primarily teaching fifth grade.
In retirement, she was very active as a volunteer at the Main Branch and Performing Arts Branch of the New York Public Library and United Nations Children's Fund, as well as at local hospitals and Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. After moving to Virginia, she was a member of the Greenspring Catholic Community and the Greenspring Resident Life Committee.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30 am on November 4th at Saint Bernadette Catholic Church, 7600 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, VA 22152. Visitation will take place at 11:00 am prior to Mass. Burial will follow at a later date at Saint Charles/Resurrection Cemeteries, 2015 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11735. She will be close to her parents, who are in the adjacent Long Island National Cemetery, and close to her beloved Fairfield Elementary.
