Eric attended Robert E. Lee High School and Southern Illinois University Carbondale (Class of 1984), and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. That foundation launched a distinguished 20-year career as a pharmacy technician on the West Coast, where his steady presence earned the trust of colleagues and patients alike.
In later years, Eric turned eastward and took on one of the most meaningful roles of his life: caring for his father, Andrew, for several years.
Eric had a deep passion for the open road and a love of classic American muscle cars, especially Dodge Challengers. He served as an administrator of the Unaffiliates Mopar Club – DMV Chapter, where he found genuine community among fellow enthusiasts who shared his appreciation for these iconic cars. Whether he was behind the wheel or talking horsepower with a fellow member, those moments brought him real joy.
Above all, Eric cared deeply about family and friends. He made a point of spending time with the aging parents of friends — and they, in turn, welcomed his company.
Eric was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Aune Luhtanen. He is survived by his brother, Mark Luhtanen, of Westwood, Massachusetts.
His loyalty ran deep, and his warmth was genuine. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
