Gary Bronson Root

Gary was born in Landstuhl, Germany to Lt. Col. Roy B. Root and LaRee Rasmussen Root on December 21, 1953. He graduated high school at R. E. Lee in Springfield and studied at VPI. He worked in kitchen and bathroom renovation, retiring from Kleppinger Co. He was a long-time supporter of the Sierra Club and the Audubon Society.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, and survived by his brothers and sisters Ray (Mary), Melinda (John), Rodney, and Marilyn, his nieces and nephews Roy, Daniel, Amelia, Riley, Jennifer, and Jeffrey, and countless friends.

Gary had a sweet tenor singing voice, played guitar, and had a good ear for harmony. He enjoyed walking, skiing, and bicycling. He was a connoisseur of fine foods and a skilled brewer, and always brought his signature smoked salmon to Thanksgiving and Christmas. He was known for his quick wit and repartee. His friends were many and lifelong, and he is terribly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, March 22, at Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, VA.

Memorials may be given to the Sierra Club or the Audubon Society.
