Henry Charles DeSeguirant, 92, passed away Friday, January 11, 2019 surrounded by his family. Henry was born in Oakland, CA on June 16, 1926 to the late Albert and Eva DeSeguirant. He was a devoted husband and father, and was married for over 61 years to his loving wife, Gail Todd DeSeguirant. After graduating from Oakland High School in 1944, Henry served in the Army during World War II, as a combat infantryman in the Philippines, on Leyte and Mindanao. After the war ended, he was sent to Korea where he became an agent in the Army's Criminal Investigations Division. Henry graduated from U.C. Berkeley in 1950, where he received a B.S degree. He later pursued graduate studies at American University and George Washington University, and was a graduate of the Federal Executive Institute in Charlottesville, VA. Henry started his career in personnel administration at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Oakland, CA. After moving to the Washington, DC area in July 1955, he worked at the Department of the Navy, the Federal Aviation Agency and the Department of the Interior. He retired from the Department of the Treasury in 1986 after 20 years of service. While at Treasury, he received the Meritorious Service award and the Exceptional Service Award, and served as the Director of Personnel, the top personnel policy making position for Treasury and all of its bureaus. Henry loved to travel; he and Gail enjoyed many trips together exploring Europe, Turkey, Greece, and many destinations in the US. His favorite trip took them through the Grand Tetons, to Glacier Park, Banff, Lake Louise, along the Icefield Parkway, and to Jasper, Canada. Henry enjoyed sailing with friends in the Chesapeake, the Caribbean and the Atlantic Ocean from Virginia to Maine. He had a long and fulfilling retirement, pursuing many hobbies including golf, tennis, learning to speak French and creating beautiful oil paintings for his family and friends. In addition to his wife, Henry is survived by two daughters, Karen Gingras of Boones Mill, VA and Debbie Absher (Kevin) of Kernersville, NC. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Kellie Gingras, Justin Absher, Kayla Gingras and Ryan Absher. Henry is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Herbert DeSeguirant and Lloyd DeSeguirant. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 4 p.m. at Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, VA. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Quantico National Cemetery on Monday, January 21, 2019 at 1 p.m.
