

Hertha was born March 31, 1925 in Sitzmannsdorf, Silesia, Germany to Hermann Karl Zessner and Ida Jobke Zessner. Hertha lived through the Nazi occupation during WWII and after the war met the love of her life, Robert Alison Brown. She and Bob were married on November 3, 1958 two days after she arrived in the United States.
Hertha became a United States Citizen on June 6, 1962 in South Carolina where Bob was stationed with the United States Army. Hertha was a proud military wife. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bob; her parents; and her younger brother Herbert Ernst Zessner.
Hertha is survived by her three nieces, Alison Brown Paddock, Laura Brown and Michele Brown as well as her dear friends Ray and Lynn Milagrano as well as scores of other friends and neighbors from Springfield, Virginia. She was very well loved and a truly special soul.
A memorial service to celebrate Hertha's life will be held on August 12 at 10:00 a.m. at Sunrise at Silas Burke House, 9619 Burke Lake Road, Burke, VA 22015
Her cremains will be interred with her husband Bob at Arlington National Cemetery at date to be announced later.
