Joseph Xavier Schmucker

Of Burke, VA, passed on February 24, 2025 at the age of 82. Beloved husband of 38 years to the late Carol Lynn Schmucker and father of Cari Schmucker and Joseph Erich Schmucker. He was preceded in passing by his brother George Schmucker.

Joseph was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but had been a DC area resident for the last 44 years. He was retired from the US Navy and worked for 30 years as a government contractor.

His Navy service took him all over the world; with time spent in Alaska, Japan, Maryland, Germany, Guam, Morocco, and Texas. His service was important to him – he was a long-standing member of the American Legion and VFW and contributed to military causes like AMVETS and Wounded Warriors. He also supported VA State Troopers, Boys Town of America, and his daughter’s classroom.

In his free time he enjoyed caring for his garden, refurbishing wood furniture, feeding wild birds, watching historical documentaries, spending time with his girlfriend Wei, and enjoying good movies and good music.

A service with Navy Honors will be held on Monday, March 3 at 10:30 am at Quantico National Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with his beloved wife.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Joseph’s memory to any of the deserving charities listed above.
