
JUDITH ANN STARKE ADAMS, 79, of Burke, VA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Preceded in death by her loving husband and life mate of 58 years, John Quincey Adams. She was born February 12, 1940 in Richmond, VA; the daughter of the late Leonard Williamson and Mable Ira Blanchard Starke.
She spent her childhood in Virginia Beach, VA, where she met and married John while working as a cashier. After living in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, VA for a short time, they moved to Northern Virginia where they resided for more than 50 years. While raising her three children through church, school and sports, she continued her retail industry career; first at Zayre in Alexandria, VA then at K-mart in Annandale and Burke, VA where she retired in retail management.
She enjoyed her family, welcomed all friends of the family, arts and crafts, her frog and bird collections, bird watching, and touring the US, specifically New England, and traveling to visit family and friends. She took great pride and joy decorating her homes to share with loved ones for every holiday. She is remembered by all by her smiling eyes and infectious laugh, her quick wit and sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Leonard E. Starke and sister Edna Elizabeth Yandura. She is survived by her children John Q. Adams II of Woodbridge, VA, David V. Adams (Twila) of Warrenton, VA, and Jean M. Fischer (Mike) of Oakland, TN; sister Peggy Lee Wemyss of Virginia Beach, VA; sisters-in-law Frances S. Starke and Thelma A. Starke; grandchildren John Q. Adams III (Ashley), Brooke D. Brooks (Brandon), Benjamin E. Adams (Abby), Molly M. Adams, and Madison L. Adams; great-grandchildren Lucas E. Adams, Sawyer R. Adams, Emma Q. Adams and Laiken G. Adams; special nephew Robert E. Starke; and many additional nieces and nephews, and cousins. She will also be greatly missed by close friends Janet Clark and Sarah Easton.
A special thanks to the management, staff, caregivers and nurses at Sunrise at Silas Burke House, in Burke, VA for her care and friendship, as well as the nurses, therapists and staff for their exceptional care at Reston Hospital Center in Reston, VA. The family would like to express their gratitude for the physical therapy provided by Michael Kayajanian and the occupational therapy by Amy Schmitt. Judy cherished the friendships with staff and fellow residents at Sunrise Senior Living Center in Burke, VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to the American Lung Association or a charity of your choice.
A memorial service will be held at a future date in Virginia Beach, VA.
