Ken died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, November 25, 2024. He was blessed with a long and loving life. We will miss his calm presence, curiosity, thoughtfulness, intelligence, and great sense of humor. We will miss him beyond what words can express.
Ken was born on November 22, 1944, in Lowell, MA, where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell (where he was Commander of the Wing, USAF ROTC) with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management. Ken married Mary Catherine Sheehan in Lowell on December 17, 1966.
Ken proudly served in the United States Air Force, where he retired as a Major. His career included assignments with the United States Air Force Headquarters and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon. He served a one-year tour of duty in Korea. After he retired from the military, he worked in the telecommunications industry.
He thoroughly enjoyed traveling with his wife, especially to Ireland, the Virgin Islands, Hawaii and the Galapagos Islands. He loved working on his cars, particularly his Karmann Ghia. He had a passion for all things related to golf, reading, and spending countless hours on electrical and woodworking projects through remodeling the family home.
Ken was preceded in death by both of his parents. His father Paul S. Rousseau died in 1987, and his mother Dora M. Rousseau (nee Dubois), died in 2020 at the age of 102.
Ken is survived by his wife Mary and their children, Sean Kenneth Rousseau (Kerry) and Mary Elizabeth Bishop. He took great pride in his six grandchildren: Riley, Finn, L.J., Aislinn, Summer Grace, and Eowyn, and they usually found themselves engaged in long talks with Grandpa about a wide variety of topics. Ken is also survived by his sister, M. Elaine Rock of Davis, CA, her children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 pm on November 29, 2024, at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Rd., Springfield, VA.
