I will miss my first cousin Larry very much.
My Mom (Mayme) and Larry's Dad (Frank) were brother and sister.
As my sister Marilyn and I were the youngest on the Fitzgerald side of the family we really looked up to our cousins in Canada and our American cousins.
Summers were awesome on the farm.
Our relatives from Windsor, Detroit and Beaverton either did visit us or we did visit them.
We were also lucky that our Uncle Jack and his wife Madeline lived right next door to us.and yes more first cousins.
Family get togethers were just so much fun and full of memories.
Larry did visit us at our home in Keene in the fall of 1998.
Although we had not seen one another in about 40 years it felt like that lapse in time had never happened, we just carried on where we left off.
Larry and my husband Paul drove to the farm where I lived and as well went to Douro an Irish community north of Keene.
At the time Douro was having a pumpkin weigh off right next to the parish church. "St. Joseph 's Douro"
Unknown to Larry George Red Sullivan was a parishioner at this church as well as Paul and I
Larry could hardly believe it when Red appeared.
Of course pictures were taken.
Many times Larry sent us postcards from Ireland when he visited and tried to keep me updated on our family history.
Paul, myself and our sons Charlie and Adam will always remember Larry,
We know he is in Heaven with his family.
Larry's fight with cancer was a valiant one.

My memory is a lifetime.  A lifetime of being taught the clear contrast between right and wrong, of faith, of reliability,  of responsibility and accountability.  Of loyalty.  Father was fiercely loyal and dependable.  And he was forever faithful, guiding his life in his Catholic faith.  He was always there, regardless of circumstance, to support and advise.  His love for his family is a forever moment for me.  He was able to see the fruits of this as the four of us (and our fantastic spouses and children) banded together in the final weeks.  I could not possibly repay the love, protection, and guidance he gave to me.  Thank you and I love you, Dad.

I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Fitzgerald a handful of times.  The stories that Tim would share with me about his dad reminded me of the memories of my father.  Unfortunately, both were taken at the young age of 83.  Both devote Catholics.  Mr. Fitzgerald attending Mass every morning for the past 25 years and my dad starting or ending every sentence with  "By God willing”.  They both loved their families; especially the grandchildren.  Family and tradition was everything.  Thank you, Mr. Fitzgerald, for teaching us what’s truly important in life: devotion to family and God. This generation will never be replaced.  

My deepest condolences to the entire Fitzgerald family.  I am sorry for your loss.  May God rest your dad’s soul and may he rest in peace.  



That was a very well written Obituary about a man I knew, many years back as a child... Two Fitzgerald families on 1 small block, Tara Drive, in Fairfax Virginia...He and his family, treated our family, as if we were family, and that can be one of the most comforting gifts a person or people, can give to another person. And, even years later, when my mom would read his post cards to me, from Larry over in the Mother Land, he STILL made us fell just like family, and we were Always interested in his adventures & travels... We were the 2nd Fitzgerald family to move to Tara Drive , Fairfax V.A., and one of the first people on the block to greet us was Larry. He was our neighbor and friend  over the next 20 years as we watched our children grow up. Larry was always so kind, not only to us but everyone.   In later years, he always invited us to visit Ireland together and my wife and I regret not taking him up on his offer. I can see him in heaven now doing the traditional Irish jig. Rest In Peace our friend, with deepest regrets. Diane & John Fitzgerald. 

It sounds like Mr. Fitzgerald lived a remarkable life, with cool jobs (politics), fun adventures (Ireland), and a strong abiding faith (Catholicism). 

His virtues are surely carrying-on in his daughter Kerry, our classmate at NC State. Kerry exudes kindness, a great sense of humor, and an outgoing nature, just like her Dad.  

May he rest well and may Kerry and the extended Fitzgerald family find peace and comfort.

     I will miss my dear, clever, bigger than life,old friend.  It was always  a great and fun time when I saw him over the many years since our days at CC.
     I am truly sorry,  he was a  great guy.  To his family,  honor his memory,  I know I will.

Larry is survived by his sister Yvonne (John) Lowry of Detroit, MI; two sons, Timothy (Stephanie) of Ashburn, VA, and Michael (Lorna) Fitzgerald of Falls Church, VA; two daughters, Maureen (Robert) Hash of Brandy Station, VA, and Kerry (David) Cantwell of Durham, NC; former wife Joan Fitzgerald; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
