Marisa L Fleck

Marisa Marchetti Fleck, 84 of Springfield, Virginia, beloved mother to Susan Fleck Norris and Kathleen Fleck Mack, mother-in-law to Geoffrey Mack, grandmother to five boys: Anthony Norris, Michael Norris, James Norris, Corbin Mack, and Thomas Mack, passed away peacefully from natural causes on May 21, 2020. Marisa was born in Mondolfo, Italy on November 27, 1935 to Augusto and Gilda Marchetti. She is sister to Giuliana Marchetti Austin of Annandale, Virginia and Ivana Marchetti Deville of Nancy, France. Marisa met her future husband, Charles E. Fleck, TSGT, US Air Force, in 1958 while he was stationed in Nancy, France. She moved to the United States shortly thereafter, where she has lived ever since, proudly becoming a Naturalized US Citizen in the 1970’s. From the young age of 13, Marisa began training to become a seamstress. A trade which led her to open “Marisa’s Italian Tailors” in the exclusive neighborhood of Georgetown in Washington DC. The shop remained open for 25 years. Marisa’s other passion was cooking Northern Italian cuisine. She turned this into her second successful venture. Marisa and her sister, Giuliana, opened Via Veneto Italian Restaurant in 1984. Located in the Hollin Hall area of Alexandria, Virginia, Via Veneto has remained a neighborhood favorite to this day. It was recently voted Best Italian Restaurant by NextDoor. Marisa was actively involved in the operation of the restaurant until just before her death. Marisa was a skilled seamstress, a talented cook, a successful businesswoman, and the ultimate hostess. She was happiest when she was surrounded by family, friends, food and music. Above all, Marisa was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and cherished friend to many. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.
