Marjorie “Marj” Louise (Robbins) Haack, 98, of Nokesville, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on January 23, 2021 while surrounded by her loved ones. Marj is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Richard “Dick” Haack, and her parents Glenn and Louise (Brust) Robbins. She was the loving mother of Robin Louise (Haack) Blaemire. Marj will forever be remembered by her daughter, Robin, and son-in-law Kevin B. Blaemire; her grandchildren: Jessica Blaemire (Peter Thaxter), Brian Blaemire (Erin), and Kevin R. Blaemire; her great-grandchildren: Brynna, Lila, Rowan, Stone, and Violet. Marj is also survived by her sister, Sherry (Robbins) Shelley and her brother, Donald Robbins (Julie Cerach), as well as countless other family members and dear friends, whom she treasured. Marj devoted her life to being a loving wife and mother, and was able to enjoy time spent with grandchildren and great-grandchildren during her final years, when she was lovingly known as “Gram” and “Gigi”.
Marj was born and raised in Iowa, and graduated from Davenport High School in 1940. While working as an executive secretary from 1940-48, she supported the war effort by proudly representing her company as a “war bonds girl”. Marj met the love of her life when her bowling league challenged the local minor league baseball team, that Dick was a member of, to a match. Marj and Dick married on September 18, 1948 in Davenport, Iowa, and enjoyed the early years of their marriage traveling around the country with Dick’s Chicago Cubs minor league teams. Following her adventures as a “baseball wife,” the couple settled in Dick’s hometown of Hammond, Indiana, where they raised Robin. Marj and Dick eventually retired to Pompano Beach, Florida in 1986, before moving to Nokesville, Virginia in 2001. Marj was a lifelong member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Highland, Indiana, where she served with Dick as a Senior High Youth Sponsor when Robin was in high school. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Griffith Chapter.
Marj was a lifelong sports fan who enthusiastically cheered for her Chicago “Cubbies” and Washington Nationals, especially when they each won the World Series. She had a beautiful voice, as Robin fondly remembers her singing in harmony with her throughout her childhood. She was an excellent cook and baker, enjoyed hosting family and friends for dinner, and never skipped dessert. Marj had a sharp sense of humor, and in recent years spent her days reading the newspaper, watching her favorite shows and sports teams, playing bunco, talking with her dear sister, Sherry, on the phone nightly, and spending time with her family. “Gram” will forever be remembered for her strength, class, and love.
Marj has chosen for her ashes to be inurned together with her beloved husband’s in a private service at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Marj requested that donations be made in her memory to The Arthritis Foundation (https://www.arthritis.org/donate). The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Capital Caring Health & Hospice of Manassas.
