Born on February 15, 1948, in Washington, D.C., Marlene dedicated her life to family, service, and friendships. A longtime Falls Church, Virginia resident, she raised her family there and leaves behind a legacy defined by strength, compassion, and unwavering love.
Marlene devoted 53 years of service to the United States Marine Corps, where she worked as an executive assistant to senior members of the military, including four-star generals. Her professionalism, warmth, and steadfast dedication earned her the love and respect of colleagues throughout her career. In addition to her government service, she was a gifted dance instructor who taught tap, jazz, and ballet. She co-owned Dance World Studio with her sister and best friend, Paula, for 25 years.
Family was always at the heart of Marlene’s life. She raised her two sons, Michael and Eric, with deep devotion and resilience. She also embraced a maternal role for her three nephews—Danny, Sean, and Jeff—who shared a close and cherished bond with her as their “Tata.”
Her grandchildren lovingly called her “Nonna,” a name she adored. She delighted in spoiling them with affection, gifts, and unconditional love. Marlene also shared a uniquely close relationship with her sister Paula, speaking often and modeling a lifelong sibling bond rooted in love, honesty, and unwavering support.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Viviane Pavlovski; her brother, Steven Pavlovski; and other beloved members of her immediate and extended family.
Marlene is survived by her sister, Paula Chreky (husband Daniel), of Potomac, MD; her two sons, Michael (wife Tiffany) and Eric (wife Serena), both of Charlotte, NC; nephews Danny, Sean, and Jeff; four grandchildren, Carson, Sloan, Leo, and Maxwell; and many extended family members and lifelong friends.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 14, beginning at 11 am at Demaine Funeral Home, Springfield. Interment will follow at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who knew Marlene to share their stories and memories in celebration of a life so deeply loved.
