

Paul A. Murray, 91 a retired Navy Captain and decorated war veteran taught mathematics, algebra and English in Somerville, Massachusetts, died May 6th, 2025 in Fort Belvoir, Virginia of heart disease.
Captain Murray graduated from Boston College and received a master's degree from Boston State College. He served aboard several aircraft carries and was a Navigator/Bombardier in the Navy's first carrier-based jet bomber. During a military career of 27 years active duty he served as commanding officer of overseas shore commands in England and the Philippines and was assigned as the Fourth Riverine Area and First Sea Lord's Intelligence officer in the Vietnam Mekong Delta in 1969.
In addition to the Bronze Star (V), his military honors include two Air Medals, the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnamese Honor Metal, two Humanitarian Service Medals and several other commendation and service awards.
Following his retirement from the Navy he worked with the Center for Naval Analyses as the information security classification manager before becoming an Enrolled Agent with H&R Block. He was a Washington area resident since 1982.
He is joining his loving wife Joan Drummond Murray. He is survived by his two daughters, Laura Atkins of Ashburn and Sarah Murray from Burke, Virginia, a sister Mrs. Ellen Rhuda of Burlington, Mass., three granddaughters, Victoria, Catherine, and Sophia, and one grandson, Joseph.
