Richard proudly served in the Army for 25 years, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer. He was a lover of British cars, especially MGs, and was a handy mechanic. He enjoyed woodworking in his free time. He could be stubborn and “slow as molasses in January,” but never hesitated to be there for his loved ones. Animals intuitively trusted and listened to him. He loved coffee cake, Sam Adams beer, and pork in all its forms. Richard rarely raised his voice in anger, so when he did, you know you were in trouble. He shunned the spotlight, never wishing anyone to fuss over him, preferring a quiet life. Ultimately, though, he loved his family above all else doing everything in his power to make sure they were happy, healthy, and secure.
Friends welcome on Sunday, April 6 from 1-3 pm at the Demaine Funeral Home, Backlick Road, Springfield.
He will be laid to rest at a later date with his beloved Bonnie at Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Richard’s memory to the Purple Heart Foundation (https://purpleheartfoundation.org/).
