

Richard C. Williams, 98, an Army Colonel who later became a Pentagon consultant died Friday evening, January 21, 2022 at Fort Belvoir, VA.
A native of Lewiston, Idaho and resident of Northern Virginia since 1966, Colonel Williams was born in Lewiston, Idaho. He briefly attended the University of Idaho before entering the U.S. Military Academy, from which he graduated in 1945. During his 30-year career as an infantry officer, Colonel Williams was assigned initially to the Occupation of Germany and then served in Korea. There, he received a purple heart, bronze star, and French Croix de Guerre. Subsequent service saw additional tours in both Germany and Korea. These were interspersed with duty on the Army Staff at the Pentagon and as instructor at the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. In his final assignment, Colonel Williams headed the Department of Economics at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces at Fort McNair, Washington, D.C. Then, for 27 years, Colonel Williams worked as a defense contractor, mainly in support of Army program analysis and evaluation functions—initially with General Research Corporation and Systems Analysis Corporation, then as an independent.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Doris S. Williams. Survivors include his three children, Diane Flock of Santa Fe New Mexico, LTC James A. Williams, USA (Ret) of Leavenworth, Kansas, and Col Michael D. Williams, USAF (Ret) of Annandale, Virginia; six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at The Fairfax at Belvoir Woods on Saturday April 2, 2022 at 11:00am.
