ROGER L DINTAMAN, age 77, died peacefully at home in Alexandria, Va. on April 6, 2021, following a long illness. Born on Sept 14, 1943 in Detroit MI to Robert Dintaman and Jeanne Baxter, he spent much of his adult life in the DC metro area. He graduated from George Washington University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business in 1966, and received his Master’s Degree in Finance from the University of Michigan. As a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Navy, he served as Supply Officer on the commissioning crew of the U.S.S. Peoria and continued serving his country until his retirement as Commander, U.S. Navy Reserve. Following active duty, Roger began his federal career as a budget analyst in the Atomic Energy Commission. He then served in the nation’s nuclear weapons programs with both ERDA and Dept of Energy, retiring in 2001. He was particularly proud of his role in managing the Waste Isolation Pilot Project in Carlsbad, New Mexico, which protects the environment by providing safe, permanent disposal of defense transuranic wastes.
He was a loving family man, devoted to his wife of 53 years, Tish, his son Jay (Dianna), his daughters Jill Robinson (Bob) and Julie Beeby (James), and 9 grandchildren. He was heavily involved in Boy Scouts, eventually serving as Scout Master of Troop 1094 in Darnestown, MD for several years. He was also an avid bridge player, starting from GWU days, and continued that love of cards all his life. He loved traveling, was a lifelong Detroit Tigers’ fan, and always enjoyed a good political discussion. His dry humor will be sorely missed!
In addition to his father and mother, Roger was preceded in death by his step-mother, Ned; his step-father Dan; and his brother Richard. He is survived by his sister, Debbie (Rusty); and brother Robert (Sharon); and his cherished grandchildren: Caleb, Leslie and Oliver Robinson; Wyatt, Eli and Sydney Dintaman; and Mia, Emma and Lily Beeby; along with cousins, nieces and nephews.
Roger will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery on Nov. 10, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.
